Community Centre, Synagogue & Daycare

The project introduces an approximately 11,000-square-foot, three-storey addition accommodating a community centre, synagogue and daycare. The existing historic synagogue remains the heart of the site while the new programme expands its role as a place for culture, education and gathering.
The addition is expressed through composed, solid forms that convey permanence while remaining welcoming. A natural-stone feature wall anchors the front elevation, contrasted by tall areas of glazing that bring daylight into the interior and reinforce the building’s civic presence.
Stucco on the secondary elevations gives the broader composition a lighter, streamlined character. The stone was selected to complement the warmth of the original brick, creating material continuity while allowing the addition to remain distinctly contemporary.
By preserving the historic building and framing it within a broader campus, the project creates a deliberate dialogue between old and new and strengthens the centre’s relationship with its established Vaughan neighbourhood.
